Swim Lessons
Who:      Children ages 1 - 12
When:    Saturday's - September 24th  - November 12th 
Where:   Seymour High School Pool
Cost:      $80 - 8 Week Session  
Level:  The first week will be an evaluation week and children will be placed according to level for times with multiple levels.

            
We anticipate that these classes will fill up quickly.  We encourage you to put yourself on a wait list
if classes are full as we may add classes based on resident demand and pool availability.

Class Descriptions:

Parent/Child: Parents and children learn together to increase a child’s comfort level in the water and build a foundation of basic skills, such as arm and leg movements and minor breath control. The child will learn to safely roll onto their back and float. The child will also become more comfortable with submerging under the water. Parent must enter and remain with child through the entire class. This class is good for those children who are not ready/comfortable leaving their caregivers side for instruction.
Pre-school (3-5yrs old): Help participants feel comfortable in the water. Inform participants on how to safely enter and exit water using ladder and side of pool. How to blow bubbles through mouth and nose, have open eyes (or goggles) under water and retrieve submerged objects, Front and back glides and floats, Roll from front to back and back to front, and how to Tread water. The participants will start to learn water safety and how to gain better confidence in the water. Children should be comfortable in an independent class setting without a parent entering the water.

Beginner(5-12yrs): Participants will learn fundamental skills such as fully submerging and holding breath, bobbing, opening eyes under water and retrieving submerged objects.  Class will also focus on, front crawl and backstroke, front and back glides and floats, rolling from front to back and back to front, changing direction of travel while swimming on front or back, and treading water. Participants will learn to jump feet first from side of pool and return to the surface onto their backs.  The participants will start to learn water safety more in detail and how to gain better confidence in the water. Child must have basic comfort being in water.
Intermediate (6-12yrs): This class builds on the skills learned in beginner class or previous experience. There will be guided practice in deeper water. Children will enter water by jumping from the starting blocks feet first, learn rotary breathing, survival & back float, changing from vertical to horizontal position on front and back, treading water, flutter and dolphin kicks on front, scissors kick, and front crawl and backstroke.
Advanced (10+): Develops further confidence in the skills learned and improves other aquatic skills and techniques such as Head first entries from the side in deep water, Swim under water, Feet first surface dive, Survival swimming, Front crawl and backstroke open turns, Tread water using 2 different kicks, Front crawl (freestyle), backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly, Flutter and dolphin kicks on back.
